Offers a wide range of attractions both for sun and beach lovers and for those interested in tanking in Chile’s rich pre-Columbian past.In Arica , near a Peruvian border , you can admire geoglyphs.These networks of lines interspersed with animal forms were drawn in the desert by ancient peoples.Here you can also see some od the oldest mummies in the world.
Further south the city of Iquique offers arqueological sites, histortic buildings , fine beaches for surf lovers and a busy Duty –Free Zone.Iquique si also the starting point of our amazing overland adventure that goes through Humberstone(an old mining town)and Huarango Salar.
Calama is a good jumping-off to explore one of the most espectacular Chile’s settings ; an extremely arid landscape an small native aymara village “ San Pedro de Atacama “, high valued for their architecture and natural surrondings.You see its beautiful lagoons teeming with flamingos, the moon valley with its bizarre rocky formations, and “El Tatio geysers” that eject columns of water and steam at dawn.
Occasionally , the desert breaks into bloom, when unexpected rains make the small seeds and bulbs flourish after they have lain buried for years thus giving rise to an endless view of numerous plants of many different colours.The magical and incredible flourished desert .
ARCHEOLOGICAL TOUR
We will visit the Archaeological Museum Gustavo Le Paige, which presents the human evolution from 15,000 years A.C. Soon we will make a visit to the church of san pedro de Atacama, declared National Monument in 1951. Later we will visit the Pukará de Quitor, preincaica stone construction that climbs a hill as a strength with perimetral defensive wall. It dates from century XII, declared National Monument in 1982. Finally, we will go to the Village of Tulor , pre-Columbian village that dates around 2,800 A .C.. This village was buried by the sand and today is a site museum, reproducing the original houses with such elements of long ago.
ATACAMA SALT FLAT
It's the biggest Salt Flat in Chile , with a surface of 320,000 has. It have brackish lagoons, where unusual wild life breaks the silence of the desertic salt flat, being the typical birds flamenco the pink ones, one of the three species of flamenco which it has his habitat in the high mountain range. In one is the Chaxas Lagoon, impressive lagoon with superficial salt in formation and an unusual flamenco magnificent life animal of the pink ones. Before arriving at Chaxas, we passed by Toconao, typical town characterized by its constructions on rock of volcanic origin. Soon we will visit the Jerez Gorge, precious and deep broken watered by the Toconao river. It has a special microclimate for the production of fruits like pears and quinces.
MOON VALLEY
It is a depression surrounded by Orbate Mountain range, in the heat of Mountain range of the Salt and in the edge of the Atacama salt flat. It is a surprising geologic spectacle of great beauty. At 2,550 meters over the sea level, its formation must to the constant rubbing of the terrestrial crust, constituted by sediment rocks with interleaves of salt, plaster, chlorate, borate and clay that arise. Declared Sanctuary of the Nature in 1982.
GEISERS OF THE TATIO
Located geothermal field to 4,320 over the sea level. The steam columns leave to the surface through fissures in the terrestrial crust, reaching a temperature of 85ºC . To the dawn, with temperatures below cero, an impressive and wonderful spectacle can be appreciated, generated by the violent steam flows that rise until the 7 meters of height.
PURITAMA HOTSPRINGS
Thermal water source, with constant fluids between 25ºC and 30ºC . Their warm waters diverse minerals are come off that have qualities for the cure of rheumatic diseases and the therapeutic bath.
HIGH PLAINS LAGOONS
This beautiful landscape is located at 4,000 meters over the sea level. The beauty of the place surrounded by high summits and with a spectacular view towards the Atacama salt flat, is one of the beautiful circuits in the zone. Way to the lagoons we happened through Socaire, small located village at 3,500 meters over the sea level, that is considered the viewpoint of the Atacama salt flat, since from there has an impressive vision of the salt flat in all its magnitude and beauty.
PAKANA MONKS AND TARA SALT FLAT
He belongs to the Reserva Nacional Los Flamencos. The salt flat has a surface of 48 km2. In the middle of volcanos fertile valleys are developed, rivers and lagoons. In this sector are volcanic structures and flat waves, existing declivities produced by the erosion to the east of the salt flat. In this place is the Tara lagoon, which has a surface of 3 to 25 km square, depending on the time of the year.
